During my recent trip to Vietnam, I embarked on a 2-day adventure on the Victory Star Cruise in Halong Bay, and it turned out to be one of the best trips of my life. Despite my initial concerns about getting water sick, I was relieved to find the journey smooth and delightful.
Start Of Our Trip
Our day started early with an 8 AM pickup from our hotel. We boarded a 14-seater tempo traveler bus, which took us on a scenic 3-hour drive to reach at location.. Along the way, we made a breakfast stop where we enjoyed coffee, snacks, and a small exhibition showcasing beautiful paintings, bamboo purses, scarves, and other local crafts. As a coffee enthusiast, I was thrilled to experience the rich flavor of Vietnamese coffee, which did not disappoint.
Upon reaching the port, we were greeted by two crew members who asked us to wait for about an hour. We indulged in another coffee break with delicious sandwiches, soon after, we boarded a small boat for our transfer to the larger Victoria Cruise ship. Equipped with life jackets, we set off on a short 15-minute journey, eagerly anticipating the adventure ahead.
Once on board the Victory Star Cruise, we were welcomed with a refreshing drink and a brief orientation. We had chosen a 5-star package that best suited our preferences, offering an extended personal balcony with a room and a decent-sized bathroom equipped with all amenities. The balcony featured a big plant, two chairs, and a small table, providing a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views. Victory Star itself boasted lavish amenities and stunning views of Halong Bay’s towering cliffs, caves, and lagoons. The attentive staff ensured all our needs were met, making us feel like royalty
Our first excursion was to Sung Sot Cave, renowned for its spectacular stalagmite and stalactite formations illuminated by mystical lighting. After exploring the cave, we headed to Titop Beach for a relaxing swim. The pristine waters and serene surroundings made it a perfect spot to unwind.
Back on the cruise, we participated in a cooking class on the sundeck, where we learned to make delicious Vietnamese spring rolls. As a vegetarian, I was glad to have brought my ready-to-eat meals, but seafood lovers and non-vegetarians had a feast of options to enjoy. Dinner was served in the elegant restaurant, and the night offered various activities, from relaxing on the deck with refined wine to indulging in a massage (which was totally on extra payment based on individual choice) at the beauty spa or trying our hand at squid fishing.
The Next Morning
The next morning, we had an exciting itinerary planned, including kayaking at Luon Cave. Guests could choose to sit on a bamboo boat rowed by a local or kayak independently. Being hydrophobic and a bit tired, I opted out of this activity, but it’s something I regret and plan to try on my next visit.
After the kayaking adventure, everybody returned to the ship for a final lunch before packing our bags and heading back to the city. The entire journey was a blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural immersion, making it an unforgettable experience. The scenic views during our last meal on the cruise were a perfect way to end our trip. Reflecting on the memories made and the beautiful sights seen, I felt a deep appreciation for the enchanting beauty of Halong Bay.
If you’re planning a trip to Vietnam, I highly recommend including this cruise in your itinerary. The breathtaking views, luxurious amenities, and variety of activities make it a must-do. Whether you’re exploring mystical caves, lounging on the sundeck, or savoring exquisite Vietnamese cuisine.
